Learn to sail on the Moray Firth, Scotland with the Banff Sailing Club.

Banff Sailing Club unites people who are interested in sailing. Our members represent all walks of life and draw from a broad area of the North East. The Banff Sailing Club has two Hunter 707 fixed keel sailing boats for helping people to learn to sail. Situated on the North-East coast of Scotland, Banff Sailing Club is a well-established sailing club celebrating its 45th birthday in 2020. The club has a good history and a current enrolment of about 70 enthusiastic members. In January 2016 we were a finalist for the RYA ‘Club of the Year’ award and BSC stalwart Jane Bowie won the RYA’s Elizabeth MacKay Award for female endeavours in the sport of sailing. Annual involvement and active participation in the RYA ‘Push the boat out’ event, in May, aims to encourage members of the public to join in as part of National Watersports Month.

Many club members tend to moor their boats in Banff or Whitehills, whilst others have their boats further afield.  There is a range of diversity in the level of experience in our membership complement. New members are always welcome. Our membership page outlines details related to fees. It is not essential to have your own boat – club boats are available for use, as are numerous opportunities to crew on fellow members’ boats.

Banff Sailing Club are delighted to be awarded over £16,000 from the Aberdeenshire Council Coastal Communities Challenge fund. The grant will allow BSC to offer a wider range of sailing opportunities to the public and new members, to offer the clubhouse to other leisure organisations and to widen our remit to cover sailing and water sports.

Eight projects have been awarded £73,000 in funding from Aberdeenshire Council’s 2021-22 Coastal Communities Challenge Fund (CCCF) programme.

Grants were awarded to organisations along the region’s coast by the North East Scotland Fisheries Local Action Group (NESFLAG).  The funding programme distributes revenues generated by Crown Estate Scotland, from which Aberdeenshire Council receives an annual allocation.

In a highly competitive application round – assessed and approved by NESFLAG, a cross-sector partnership comprising representatives from Aberdeenshire’s coastal and fishing sectors – the successful projects were selected for their positive economic, social or environmental impact on coastal communities.
